CAPS is a snapshot of the case mix of Australian paediatricians. APRN members recorded information on their patients for 2 weeks in November-December 2008. This study is the first to provide national data about which children Australian paediatricians really see. The early CAPS data were were awarded the Rue Wright Memorial Prize for best paper in community child health at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians annual congress in Sydney, Australia, in May 2009. In March 2011, the summary CAPS data were published by the Medical Journal of Australia.

In 2008 the APRN conducted a national Delphi process. Australian paediatricians proposed over 400 research questions which were used to generate their ‘Top 20’ research priorities. 348 (61%) of paediatricians who expressed interest in joining the APRN in 2007 rated the Top 20 in terms of importance to their own practices (1=not important, 5=extremely important). The results of this study form the APRN’s first paper, titled “What Research Questions Matter to Australian Paediatricians? National Delphi Study”, which was published by the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health (2009;45:704-710).
